Project Overview:
Situated along Old North Coast Road, this project required BLOC Contractors to design and install lateral support structures on multiple retaining walls for a critical infrastructure upgrade. The goal was to ensure long-term slope stability and prevent structural damage caused by water ingress and erosion.
Project Details:
BLOC Contractors was appointed to deliver a full design-and-construct solution for four lateral support walls on the project. In addition to standard geotechnical drilling and anchoring, our team installed shotcrete finishes to reinforce the walls.
One key feature was the construction of an upper edge on each wall designed to prevent water from running over or behind the shotcrete facing. This extra measure helps reduce the risk of erosion and water damage, which can significantly impact the structural integrity of support systems, especially during periods of heavy rainfall.
Challenges:
- Working at height during shotcrete application
- Maintaining safe site conditions along a busy road
- Preventing water runoff from compromising the structure
The installation has not only strengthened the embankment but also visually enhanced the corridor. The added water protection feature will help extend the lifespan of the installation.
Services Provided:
- Full lateral support system design
- Geotechnical drilling
- Anchor installation
- Shotcrete application
- Edge detailing for water control
