Assembly and installation of large post-tensioned culverts

Have A Question?

Due to the size and weight of each culvert, BLOC proposed a cast-in-sections approach. Each unit was manufactured in manageable segments to simplify transport to site. Once delivered, the culverts are assembled and post-tensioned on-site before being jacked into position.

Project Overview:

BLOC Contractors has been mobilised for a technically demanding culvert jacking operation at a mine site. The project involves the installation of three oversized culverts, each measuring approximately 20 metres in length, 6.7 metres in height, and 5.5 metres in width. With each unit weighing around 800 tons, careful planning and execution are key.

These images show our team carrying out a trial assembly at the precast manufacturer’s yard. This step was essential to confirm the fit and coordination of all elements ahead of on-site installation.

Challenges:

  • Managing the logistics of transporting large, heavy components
  • Trial assembly and alignment of segments before post-tensioning
  • Performing the installation in an active mine environment with limited access and strict safety controls

The assembly was successfully completed.
