Project Overview:
The EB Cloete Interchange is a major junction in Durban, currently undergoing significant upgrades as part of the N2 road expansion. BLOC Contractors was brought in to provide lateral support for the widened road section, ensuring long-term stability and safety of the surrounding infrastructure.
Project Details:
Our team was tasked with delivering lateral support along the embankment of the N2, adjacent to the EB Cloete Interchange. The work involved drilling and installing support anchors followed by the application of shotcrete. In this case, the client requested a smooth concrete finish after the shotcreting process to improve the final appearance of the wall. While not part of our standard scope, we accommodated this request, applying a smooth finish to the shotcrete to meet the aesthetic requirements of the site.
Challenges:
- Working in an active road upgrade zone with ongoing traffic management
- Delivering the work efficiently while accommodating non-standard client requests
Outcome: The lateral support structure was successfully installed, and the wall was finished with a smooth concrete layer, enhancing both the structural integrity and appearance of the project area. Our team completed the job safely, efficiently, and to the satisfaction of the main contractor.
