The Process Of Trenchless Rehabilitation For Construction

Various trenchless construction methods are used for the installation, replacement and rehabilitation of underground pipes. Rehabilitation is the act of reinforcing existing pipes so that they can continue to function efficiently. Here’s more about the process of trenchless rehabilitation for construction:

Resin Injection

This is the act of using resin to seal defects within a pipeline. Depending on the size of the pipeline, it can be done remotely or by hand. Remote resin injection can be done through the Cured in Place Pipe Liners (CIPP) method. This method involves the use of a remote system to dispense resin into the pipe. This method can be used in many pipelines, such as those that have been created by use of the microtunneling method.


Sliplining is a very old method for pipeline rehabilitation and is still used to this day. This trenchless rehabilitation method works by inserting a smaller carrier pipe into a host pipe – the host pipe is the existing pipe. The pipe is pushed or pulled through the existing pipe to stabilise the walls of the existing pipe. This method may need annular grouting if the new pipe is not expanded to tightly fit into the new pipe.

Thermoformed Pipelining

For this trenchless rehabilitation process to work effectively, the host pipe needs to be cleaned before installation of the thermoformed pipelining. Steam and air are used to stretch the lining in order for it to fit the host pipe. The liner used for this rehabilitation method is long lasting because of its corrosion and abrasion resistance.
