How To Cut A Concrete Slab

Concrete is a popular material used for walkways, patios, driveways and so on. If you’re lucky, the slab will be the exact dimensions that you need, but sometimes concrete needs to be cut. There are a few different ways to cut concrete down to suitable dimensions. The technique used is dependent on the thickness of the concrete slab.

Hammer and Chisel

This is the traditional way of cutting a concrete slab. As the name suggests, it involves the use of a hammer and chisel. The chisel is used to scratch a line where the concrete slab needs to break. The chisel must then be placed on the line and forcefully hit with the hammer repeatedly until the concrete slab splits. This method of concrete cutting takes a lot of time and effort.

Hand-held Saw

This technique requires the concrete slab to be secured. The slab should be placed on a work stand that can be adjusted. The blade should be used to cut through the concrete slab in sections, being lowered as the process continues. If you have access to it; a table saw will make this process move faster.

Concrete Saw

These saws are made specifically for cutting concrete or brick. Concrete saws are like table saws but have a number of attachments that allow the cutting process to run smoothly. One of these attachments include a hose to cool the blade and rinse the dust away.
