Bloc has been involved in a number of specialist jacking operations recently.
This has been done utilising their wide range of jacking equipment comprising of jacks, pumps, gauges etc. that can successfully tackle most hydraulic jacking contracts.
Jacking contracts recently completed or in progress include:
Bearing Installation: Bonnievale Bridge Western Cape:
Bearing refurbishment of the bridge included jacking up the bridge under traffic, removal of the existing bearings and installation of new bearings.
Tongaat Mall Load Testing:
A load test of a column on the existing structure was done to do a load test on the column integrity.
N2 Umdloti Bridge Bearing Replacement:
The existing bridge over the N2 at Umdloti required bearings to be replaced. This required 28 bearings each weighing approximately 1 ton each had to be replaced. At each location the bridge was jacked up with a jacking force of 1000 tons.
Then the existing bearing was removed by wire sawing the plinth supporting the bearing to release it. The old bearing was then removed, new one installed and grouted up followed by lowering the bridge on to the new bearing.
